It’s My Blogiversary! Three years and counting

Happy Blogiversary to me! It was three years ago today that I wrote my first postย on my blog. That seems a long time ago.

When I set up the website, my son was the force behind it all. At the time, he was not yet 16, and full of ideas and energy. The only payment he wanted for all of his work was coffee. My how things have changed! He’s in college now and still drinks coffee, but when he gets paid for something, it’s in cold, hard cash.

We laugh now when we talk about the day we took the site live. We had gone to the coffee shop to work because their Internet was so much faster than ours. After we got there, we found out they were closing three hours earlier than we expected, and we had way more work to do than we thought. It’s a small place so we tried to keep our voices down, but our frustration with ourselves, each other, and the site itself must’ve hung in a blue cloud around us. We remember that everybody who passed our table skirted us by a big margin.

Fortunately, we’ve come a long way since then. I have made a lot of mistakes, but I understand a lot more about what has to be done, and have learned enough code to keep myself afloat. Most of the time. When I don’t know, The Boy is still willing to help me out. I am not sure where he learned his patience, but it isย one of his good points.

That first blog post was about the first word quilt I did. My word that year was, “Intent.” I still have that quilt hanging on my workroom wall. It’s no masterpiece but it reminds me to think about why I’m doing things. Sometimes I lose sight of the forest for the trees, you know?

I’ve made two more word quilts since then, “Finish,” in 2016, and “Immerse,” this year. Don’t ask me why I didn’t make one in 2015. I have no idea at all. “Finish” was not a grand success for me, as you know if you’ve been following me any time at all. I have grand hopes for “Immerse.”

My word quilts for 2014 and 2016: Intent and Finish–Finish looks a tad wonky here!
Immerse, three
My 2017 word quilt: Immerse

I honestly don’t remember what my reasons were for starting the blog three years ago. There are periods when I did nothing with it at all. At times I flat-out hated it. I have been blogging every single day since November now, though, and I’m loving it. I know now that I want to engage with others, quilters and non-quilters alike, on whatever level they (you) choose. I love learning what other people are doing, what they’re thinking, and how they live. I really love it when y’all leave me comments and share what’s happening in your world.

I’ve shared such a variety of things. Among my favorites are

To those of you who have been with me from the beginning, I say a big, fat THANK YOU! I appreciate your encouragement more than you will ever know. To those of you who’ve just joined me for the ride, I thank you too. Each and every one of you who read my words and leave me comments are the reason I do this. You encourage me to keep going. Thanks. Really.

So, what do you think? Shall we shoot for another three years?

Only three years?!? Really?? Happy Blogaversary! Keep going, my friend, because I so enjoy reading your posts and learning (yep, I do) from you. Sometimes you have me laughing out loud just when I need it. Honestly, you’ve become like a next door friend! Enjoy your day!

    • Lori East

      Yes, ONLY three. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thank you so much for you encouragement, Wendy. I appreciate it! “…like a next door friend,” is the kindest thing you could possibly say to me.

  • Barbara Runkle Swing

I do not comment often. I have so much to learn, and you’ve shared much interesting information. Many times what you write about inspires me to research further on my own. I enjoy your quilting adventures, and can relate to a sewing studio that becomes too cluttered. I tried to mimic your goal to complete 55 finishes for 2016. I did not reach that goal, but I think more things were accomplished than would have been without it. I guess what I’m trying to say, is that I am inspired by you. Please keep blogging! Happy Blogiversay! ๐Ÿ˜˜

    • Lori East

Hi there, Barb! It’s fun to hear from you! I’m glad you’re enjoying the blog, even if we both have messy workrooms and neither of us finishes as much as we’d like to.

  • Nothing like starting a blog to provide a little (okay, a lot) of mother/son bonding. Sew special. And Happy Anniversary, Shug!

    • Lori East

Thank you! The bonding, that day, was pretty precarious. We do pretty well nowadays, though. ๐Ÿ˜‰
