Forgive me for keeping this short on this lovely Saturday, but I am off to do something really FUN. I’m in Lincoln to go to the International Quilt Study Center to attend Joe Cunningham‘s creative design workshop. Excited? You bet I am!!
I’ve long admired Joe’s quilts and wondered just what happens inside that head of his. Here’s hoping I get just a peek. If I learn one thing, just one thing, I will consider the day a success. I’m betting I’ll learn a lot more.
You may know that I rarely take classes these days, mostly because I just don’t have time. I love teaching them, but because of that, can’t fit both into my schedule. It was kind of a last-minute decision for me to come to this one. I had gotten the postcard announcing it a couple of weeks ago and thought, “Yeah, I’d love to do that.” But after a look at my calendar and my big fat to-do list, decided against it. But then Tuesday morning, when I realized it was just not going to get out of my head, I took the leap.
Last year, I won a cruise from World of Quilts Travel to Alaska on which Joe, Rob Appell, John Flynn, and Luke Haynes were teaching. I was really looking forward to it! In the end, though, I wasn’t able to go. Yes, I was seriously disappointed, but life happens. You can see why it wasn’t hard to ditch my responsibilities for this weekend, though, right? Really, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Three days. I figured I could spare them for some inspiration.
Another perk of the weekend is that I’ll get to see Luke Haynes’s exhibit, “Log Cabins by Luke Haynes.” Sunday afternoon, Joe will be giving the Ghormley Inaugural Lecture at 2:00. Sounds like a great time, doesn’t it?
So, I’m off to learn today, and sew, and see what I can come up with. You’ll forgive me for not staying to chat?
Have a great Saturday! Be sure to pop back by tomorrow for the Sunday Sewcial…you’ll be the ones asking the questions. And keep your eyes on Lori East Quilts and my Instagram for in-the-minute photos! I’ll tell you all about it on Monday.
