I got some happy mail Thursday afternoon. I finally ordered the fat quarter collection of Pepper Cory’s Peppered Cottons. This is the second collection (I think) that was released a while back. Pretty, huh?
And I got yardage of a few that I’ve wanted to play with for ever so long. I got several pieces of these cottons when they were first released and absolutely fell in love. They are rich and hefty, and the colors are glorious!
Don’t know what Peppered Cottons are? Technically, they are shot cottons, which means they are woven with one color in the warp (the lengthwise thread) and another in the weft (the selvage-to-selvage thread). This results in a beautiful look something like iridescent (but not glittery) chambray. Remember chambray shirts? Yeah, like that, only way more beautiful.
Because of the difference in the threads, the resulting fabric seems to vary slightly in color, depending on the angle it’s viewed from. This gives so much depth!
I’ll keep you posted what I make with these. In the meantime, look for them at your local quilt shop. If you can’t find them there, check your favorite online vendor and Studio E Fabrics to see where you can buy them. I think you’ll like what you see!
