Finish #5

Y’all are going to laugh (or roll your eyes), but I’m calling this a finish.

You may know that I am working hard on getting better at free-motion quilting. I am afraid that desire has taken over my life. I’ve worked on almost nothing else!

So, in that spirit, here is my next (or last, however you look at it) finish. These three little hot pads that I (badly) machine-quilted and bound. I think I did these the second day I quilted, so if they’re too awful, oh well. Besides, they will keep me from burning my hands, right?

I will tell you about my quilting adventures in a couple of days, but let me just tell you that practicing is the greatest thing ever for burning through the tons of old, ugly fabric taking up too much space on my shelves. There will be lots of placemats for us and kitty beds for the shelter. But with all the practice pieces I’m making, I didn’t want to spend time hand-binding them so I am doing it by machine. It’s not great but it is serviceable.

For once, I don’t care that the binding doesn’t look great from the back!

So, while these might be small, they are some of the first machine-quilting I’ve done in a really long time AND nearly the only machine-binding I’ve ever done (I really don’t like the way it looks on the back). And besides, they’re finished! So, YAY. Finish #5 of 55!

I’ll be back soon to show you my progress with the quilting. It’s actually pretty surprising! There are a few updated photos here and there on Facebook¬†and Instagram. (I’d love some “likes” and “follows!”)

I don’t see a thing wrong with those — they look great! And I like the colors, too, so if that’s your ugly fabric, pfffttt!

Oh no, just you wait…there’s some serious ugly. Think 1990s blue, peach, GAG. The cats won’t care, though!
