Being thankful is important to me. I have a lot for which to be thankful! I like my life very much and am grateful for every breath I get to take. Yes, really.
Its been a while since I got to chat with you. What a crazy Autumn it was for me. I was on a marathon trip that lasted nearly a month. I traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska; Winterset, Iowa; and Springfield, Illinois. I came home for two days (long enough to do laundry) and left for Houston. I was at Market, then headed for the beach at Galveston before returning to Houston for Festival. Yes, it was fun, since you mention it. It was also exhausting.
I’m home now and have spent nearly every waking moment trying to get caught up. I wanted to get everything I needed to done before the holidays started, but that may or may not happen. I mean, it’s already Thanksgiving!
For those of you not in the U.S., you might wonder what this day is all about. It’s really one of our best holidays, if you ask me. It’s the day we’re meant to be giving thanks to God for our many blessings. Honestly, I do that every day, but I still like the idea of a day when we’re ALL doing it.
In practice, it’s a day for feasting too. Traditionally, that means a roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and gravy, and green bean casserole. For dessert, there is usually pumpkin pie. Yep, light eating. Not.
We usually have family with us on Thanksgiving, but that didn’t work out this year, so it’s just my husband, our son, and me. I am not fixing our usual big meal but there will definitely be pie. I love pie, nearly all kinds. I made two pumpkin pies and am just taking a blueberry one out of the oven in a few minutes.
It’s kind of a sad day this year too. Last Sunday I learned of the death of a man with whom I’d been good friends for a long time. He had been ill for quite a while, but I honestly didn’t expect his end to come so soon. I was not ready to say goodbye, but are we ever? I will miss him a lot but truly am grateful for his friendship.
So it’ll be a low-key day for us today, and that’s not bad at all. I am thinking I might just sneak off to my workroom for a bit later. After pie and coffee, of course!
Happy Thanksgiving to you!
